LISBON LEMONS

December 16, 2008 · Leave a Comment

The lemon tree is going in the place of a birch tree. The tree died a couple of years ago and was never replaced.  I think the Hepburn Shire Council would be a little mean spirited to take this one out.

LOCAL COUNCIL 3 OLIVE TREES – COMMUNITY 0

December 16, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I spoke with someone today that said they noticed a council worker puling out young trees and white pickets on the bank of the lake today, I went down to have a look and the olive trees had gone. Wow  that was quick, I only planted them on the weekend. I’m disappointed I didn’t drive ten 6ft steel pickets in around each tree to prevent this from happening, but maybe next time I should be a little less conspicuous with my planting spot

MENU FOR HOPE

Fundraising Page Image

Every year, Food Bloggers from all over the world join together for a fundraising campaign.  We call it ‘Menu for Hope’.  Last year, we raised over $90K for the UN World Food Program.

This year Menu for Hope 5 again raises funds for the WFP’s school lunch program in Lesotho, Africa.  This is the second year we are supporting this program, which assist the WFP’s efforts to supply the program by buying directly from local farmers who practice conservation farming methods.  With this program, we help feed the kids (which keep them in school) and support their parents and community farming.  This sustainable approach to aid is something we believe in and strongly support.

This year we are raffling a years supply of mineral water with minimum food miles from Daylesford and Hepburn Mineral Springs Co. The prize is 7 cases of 18 X500ml or 12 X 750ml Hepburn sparkling or still mineral water delivered in Melbourne (retail $440). Ongoing, the winning bid can buy mineral water at the wholesale price and have it delivered to their door.
The water is bottled in spa country for restaurants and cafes in inner city Melbourne including Pearl, Verge, Cicciollina, Baker D.Chirico, Cafe Racer, Carlisle St Wine Bar, Arintje, St Judes Cellars, Gertrude Street Enoteca, Cafe e Torta, Gills Diner, Benitos, Von Haus, Dench Bakers, Joes Garage, Babka, Alementari, Ladro, Panama Dinning Room, North, Small Block, Gingerlee, Rumi, Journal… Being conscious of food miles and the carbon footprint all of our packaging – bottles, boxes, and labels are manufactured within a 100 kilometre radius, and wherever possible we use recycled materials. what is it with lemons?

December 14, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Its Sunday and I needed a lemon for some lemon cordial. Our green grocer was closed so I went to the local supermarketand this is what I discovered. American lemons at $6.95 a kilo which equates to $1 a lemon. If you would like 5 you can have them packaged in plastic and barcoded.

I think Im going to plant a lemon tree.

Another Kalamata olive tree was planted last night.

I am making sure that any plantings have enough space between them so that it is easy for council workers to manoeuvre the tractor between them when they are slashing the lawns.
